In linguistics, a meronym is a word that has a part-of relationship with another word known as a holonym. Called meronymy, this relationship connects a term representing the whole (the holonym) to its parts (the meronyms).
In other words:
X is a meronym of Y if every X is a part of Y.
A good example of meronymy is the human face. If face is the holonym, then the set of meronyms will include eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc.
