Arithmetic is the branch of mathematics dealing with the study of numbers and the operations used to manipulate them. The basic operations are: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Other more advanced operations include: exponentiation, root extraction, factorization, congruence calculations, etc. Arithmetic operations are performed in a strict order based on the operators. Arithmetic is both the oldest and most elementary branch of mathematics.
